Description
Our certified organic Emmer (also known as Farro) has a sweet, nutty flavor, making it a great flour alternative for pasta, dense breads, cookies and an excellent side dish or ingredient in salads or soups.
Emmer is an excellent source of zinc, which protects the body’s cells against free radical damage, and niacin, which boosts energy. This healing and energizing grain is also good source of magnesium, making it a nutrient-rich, versatile food.
Making Flour from Emmer Wheat
Emmer flour can be used for a variety of recipes and is best ground at the medium to coarsest setting on the Lee Household Flour Mill. All stone mills can have potential challenges with grinding gluten-rich grains at the finest setting due to the stone gumming up. To make flour, simply pour the grains into the hopper, select your desired coarseness and mill until the hopper is empty.
Cooking Emmer Berries
Boil two cups of water and one cup of Emmer. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for up to forty minutes or until grains are tender and have absorbed the water.
Flour made with Organic Emmer/Farro is compatible with the Acid Alkaline diet, Atkins diet, Low Carb diet, Macrobiotic diet and the Mediterranean diet.
